Women Advocate Peaceful Elections

 / June 28,2023

The National Women’s Council conducted community dialogues on electoral violence in Luwero District as part of efforts to promote peaceful elections.

Women leaders appealed to government agencies, security forces, and electoral stakeholders to safeguard women’s participation in the electoral process and prevent acts of violence before, during, and after elections.

Discussions highlighted concerns over harassment, arbitrary arrests, and confiscation of campaign materials. Leaders stressed that electoral violence disproportionately affects women and families, leading to displacement, economic hardship, and increased vulnerability.

The dialogues reaffirmed the Women’s Council’s commitment to advocacy, legal support, and peaceful civic engagement across the country.
